The
smallest things in life can often cause the most pain. Take
splinters for example. A tiny piece of wood seems harmless; that
is of course until it becomes embedded under your skin. Your body
recognizes that a foreign object has entered and sends your brain
signals of discomfort. You search in vain for the culprit and once
found, you squeeze the surrounding area to force it out. Most
splinters come out with ease once the pressure is applied. But
then there are those that go deep beneath the skin’s surface,
which require tweezers or a hot sewing needle to pry it out.
Whatever the case, you work tirelessly to remove splinters in the
natural, but is the same work applied to remove splinters from
spiritual matters? If our spirits are open and sensitive, we
should recognize the signals that negative thoughts, words and/or
actions have entered and need to be removed quickly. Yet many of
us still respond from the soul and ignore the signs. We become
comfortable with those little invaders and allow them to hang
around too long. Once ignored, soul splinters will hide themselves
way beyond the surface, blending into the environment and
resurface when least expected. It’s in those moments that the
most pain is caused, not just to you but others as well. If we
begin to apply pressure - the Word of God and prayer
- to the infected areas of our lives the splinters will have to
leave. Ask (the) Holy Spirit to show you the areas of your life
where soul splinters have buried themselves. He’ll show where
they came in, what needs to be done to remove them and how to
prevent them from affecting you again.
