Who Are You Reflecting?

By Lisa Jackson

Have you looked in a mirror lately?  I’m sure during the course of the day you have glanced there a few times.  For some of us, it is a daunting task to view the effects of time while others are content with the image presented before them.  When we view our image long enough, we are able to notice the most minuscule things like a hair out of place, maybe the beginning stage of an unwanted blemish or certain body parts defying the laws of gravity.  Whatever the case, we are focused on improving that area and will apply the necessary reinforcements until the wanted image is achieved.

There is nothing wrong with improving ourselves physically, but what about spiritually?  How often do we examine our spirit man and make the appropriate changes until the right image is reflected?

God made it clear in the beginning of His Word that we were made in His image (Genesis 1:27).  We are patterned after His likeness.  Not only do we represent God, we also embody His glory (1st Corinthians 11:7). IT IS HIS GLORY that those around us need to see.

We are God’s mirrors.  A mirror is a surface that reflects light to form a true and accurate image of whatever is before it.  Two things are necessary in order for a mirror to function: light and an object to project.  As His mirrors, we need to allow the light of Holy Spirit to reflect upon us thus projecting the image of Christ.  To properly produce His image we need to study the Word and imitate Jesus in every area of our lives.

Let’s allow the fruit of the Spirit to reign in our hearts so that our words and actions reveal His inner workings.  Let’s allow The Lord to have His way in us so that when others look, they will see only Him.  If we do this, fashion our lives after Jesus, then our trips to the mirror will be more rewarding because God is the one we’re reflecting.

“And all of us have had that veil removed so that we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord.  And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like Him and reflect His glory even more.” -2nd Corinthians 3:18 (New Living Translation)
