Living Water

By Royelle Glover

Jack and Jill went up the Hill

To fetch a pail of Water

Jack fell down and broke his crown,

And Jill came tumbling after.

Do you see yourself in this innocent nursery rhyme—climbing the hill of social status, the corporate ladder, financial success, trying with your own strength to obtain titles or position?  Fetching a pail of earthly water, to fulfill the void in your life, will only yield the fruit of temporal pleasure.  Whenever your focus is YOU [self-achievement] without God in sight, you could be sure that sooner or later you [like Jack] will come tumbling down. [Prov.16:18]  “Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

When Lucifer, the anointed cherub, lost sight of God because his heart was proud and his wisdom was corrupted for the sake of splendor, he was cast down to the ground. If what you are seeking to accomplish takes the place of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, get ready, you are a candidate to fall down and break your man made crown and lose everything.

And God spoke all these words: (Exo. 20:1-5)

  • "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of      slavery.

  • "You shall have no other gods before me.

  • "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath [career, children, spouse, material possessions] or in the waters below.

  • You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God…”

What Hill are you attempting to climb?  Contentment doesn’t come from accomplishment it comes from a life submitted to the Lord.  For I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.  (Phil. 4:11)  Then, and only then, can you do everything you need to be because Christ is the energizing center of your life!

What waters are you fetching—Worldly or Heavenly?  Jesus said to the woman of Samaria, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

Come Let Us ASCEND (climb) the Hill of Zion and begin to drink from Heaven’s fountain living waters that will satisfy your every need so you will never thirst again.
